The Ritz-Carlton, Haikou is ideally situated on the world-class golf resort of Mission Hills Golf Club in the golfer’s paradise of Hainan Island, a resort region in the south of China. According to the Guinness Book of Records, this is the world’s largest golf complex, where twelve 18-hole championship courses are available on 20 square kilometers. Located in Hainan Island, often called the Hawaii of China, the 191-room hotel enjoys year-round tropical sunshine for perfect days on the legendary 350-acre Blackstone Course that weaves its way around the world-renowned Mission Hills Golf Club. Built on top of a bedrock of ancient lava from extinct volcanos, the dramatic landscape features rocky outcrops with striking variations of jungle vegetation, expansive lakes and wetlands which can be viewed from every room.

The Ritz-Carlton, Haikou pays homage to the heritage of golf throughout. The architects AECOM, with interior designers HBA Los Angeles, have playfully created a design reminiscent of an elegant golf clubhouse. Guestrooms feature fabrics and patterns inspired by vintage golf elements, ensuring no two spaces are alike. Golfโ€™s notable insignia, the traditional tartan weave, has been reinterpreted as a distinct stone floor pattern, grounding the space, and creating immediate character. Warm natural timber, refined profiles and clean timber wall paneling add a layer of texture and elegance. Aged leathers enrich the classic furniture pieces while tufted buttoning and metal stud details elevate the overall style. Clusters of golf trophies complete the look with a relaxed, homey feel. Wall panels and light fixtures incorporate stitching that evokes handmade golf shoes, while antique leathers make references to a vintage golf bag while the tartan flooring reminds guests of Scotland, the birthplace of golf.

Haikou was established as a port city in 110B.C. during the Han dynasty and is marked by its past international influence, with historic buildings constructed in an array of styles by the Portuguese, French and Southeast Asian traders who routinely docked in the port. The construction and design of The Ritz-Carlton, Haikou is inspired by the islandโ€™s unique blend of customs and traditions, as it combines traditional classic detailing with a luxurious contemporary flair. Within close proximity to the hotel, Mission Hills Centreville is a premier entertainment and nightlife hub. The design of the Town Center is influenced by design themes from all over the world, boasting an indoor and outdoor commercial shopping complex complete with ponds, bridges, islands, and a plaza designed for festival activities.
