Where to Watch Fireworks in New York City This Fourth of July

In many parts of the country, the Fourth of July means backyard barbecues, heading to the local pool, and setting off a few sparklers. In New York City, it means something else entirely: fireworks, fireworks, and more fireworks. However, with so many New Yorkers and out-of-town guests turning out to see these patriotic displays, it’s not always easy to find a prime viewing location. The good news? We’ve rounded up the best spots in the city to catch the fireworks without the crowds.

The Roof of The Hayworth: Looking to enjoy a fireworks display in the city without having to vie for a prime spot? If you’re lucky enough to live in a luxury building like The Hayworth in Carnegie Hill, the perfect viewing venue is just an elevator ride away. The building offers a landscaped roof deck, complete with a fireplace, outdoor dining areas, and a grill, perfect for having a summer celebration with friends and checking out a display.

The Boat Basin on the Upper West Side

Head up to 79th Street’s Boat Basin on the Upper West Side for one of the city’s best—and most underrated—fireworks-viewing spots. Since the Boat Basin is right on the edge of the Hudson, there won’t be a thing obstructing your view of the fireworks as they light up the night sky.

The Skyport Marina

Venture down to 23rd Street and the FDR to scope out one of Manhattan’s premier fireworks-viewing spots. Right on the water, the Skyport Marina is a  great place to see not only the Macy’s fireworks display, but fireworks set off from other boroughs and New Jersey, as well.

East River Park

After a day shopping and dining on the Lower East Side, head over to East River Park on the FDR Drive to catch the fireworks after dusk. While other waterfront areas may have larger crowds, this 45-acre green space is large enough that you’re sure to get a perfect spot to check out the show.

One World Observatory

The highest spots in New York City will inevitably offer some of its best views, so head down to One World Observatory this Fourth of July.  A ticket to the tower’s Independence Day celebration buys you three hours of the best viewing experience in the city, as well as an open bar, American food, and passed appetizers.

Whether you’re checking out the fireworks displays from the privacy of your own building’s rooftop or venturing to Ground Zero to see the action, New York City is truly magical on the Fourth of July. Armed with insider information on the city’s best viewing locations, all that’s left to do is scope out your spot!
