Tara Villa Riverkwai Resort is an architecturally significant contemporary boutique resort complex located on the riverside along the banks of the Khwae Yai River in western Thailand. Built as an exclusive enclave, the resort features 11 pool villas situated on the river’s edge with private views across the water.
The villas are the heart of the resort. When entering, guests walk through a semi-outdoor space, which functions as a transition space, before reaching the indoor living area. Bold over height dividing walls on both sides extend past the terrace and pool to frame the fabulous river views. With the sliding glass walls fully open, the indoor and the outdoor space merge and become one, revealing a truly harmonious combination of openness, privacy, and tranquility.
A modern masterpiece of contemporary architecture designed by IDIN Architects, Tara Villa Riverkwai Resort, tells a new story of Kanchanaburi, famously known as the historical setting of the construction of the Burma Railway in 1942–1943, built during WWII and immortalized by the Pierre Boulle novel and epic 1957 David Lean war film, The Bridge on the River Kwai.
